Last October the "classic" of Spanish football hit rock bottom on television speaking. 1.279.000 people were the ones who tuned in to Canal + Plus to follow the developments in the field of play of the two greats of Spanish football. An important amount for a channel that broadcasts in closed but ridiculous if we take into account that that day the episode of the Simpsons was seen by 1.389.000.
The difference between broadcasting open or not could justify these figures. However, the passing of the weeks came to confirm what many intuited and few dare to say: the League no longer interests almost anyone. And what is worse for her, the Second already beats him in television audience.
Strong statement that is reaffirmed through data. This last week, Espanyol-Celta was followed by 561.000 people in Energy. The League Adelante, through the sixth, offered to 662.000 people Zaragoza-Leganés. The same chain reached 619.000 spectators with Racing-Albacete.
We talk about a particular weekend, but it is the trend of recent months, so much so that Cuatro refused to continue broadcasting the League on Saturdays. One week before, Real Valladolid-Alavés brought together 553.000 people in the sixth. Éibar-Getafe stayed in 373.000 spectators, widely surpassed by reruns of series such as "Con el culo al aire" or Bricomanía.
In a league where only Madrid and Barcelona are of interest (and eye, in the first parts, Well, when they have the party on track, the audience leaves), the LFP has to do something, and also, urgent for the good of Spanish football.
Schedules more in line with the general public, best known television networks, obviously more attractive matches. Any step forward will be welcome in a League that looks to China so much that it forgets that it is played in Spain.
