For better or worse, League remains the most competitive championship

Last update 19 February, 2014 by Julio Muñoz

Year after year they have been talking about the wonders of the Premier League, boiling Bundesliga, of the prodigious economic budgets that the great especially Anglo-Saxons and Germans have to be able to acquire the best stars. However, campaign after campaign a reality emerges: the spanish league is still, from far, the most competitive domestic competition of how many exist.

The victories of Barcelona and Atlético put both clubs one step away and home from the quarterfinals. And all of this, with Real Madrid on the verge of playing next week against Schalke 04, theoretically affordable rival. Some results that could configure Spain to have again as in 2013 three quarter finalists, something that no other power achieved and that they will hardly achieve this course.

Germany has already seen Bayern Leverkusen fall with a crash (0-4) against PSG and can be perfectly represented by Bayern Munich and at most, el Borussia Dortmund. Germany has been unable to manage to get three representatives in the top continental competition and have not won the UEFA Cup / Europa League since the year 1997. It can be said that except for Bayern and Borussia the rest of the teams are losing their performance alarmingly, not to mention the hamburg, capítulo aparte.

Worse is the case of the Premier League. Except Liverpool titles (2005), Chelsea (2012) y Manchester United (2008) the situation is daunting, especially in the last five years. Arsenal have not reached the Champions League final for eight years and five if their elimination at the hands of Bayern is fulfilled without even reaching the quarterfinals. Of course, Manchester City has never stepped on that round in its history because of a lot of money it invests in signings.

We talk about Premier and Bundesliga, but things are even worse in Italy or France. A French team has not raised a Champions League since Olympique de Marseille did it in 1993 Suffice it to say that Ligue members have never won the UEFA Cup or Europa League 1. The transalpinos have done it but their downward slope is so evident that they will hardly have a representative in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, something in which they have to do and a lot the state of decomposition in which Inter and Milan live.

El Atlético sigue siendo un obstáculo duro de batir.
Atlético continues to be a tough obstacle to beat.

While the League to its own. Barcelona and Real Madrid have reached the semifinals in the last four years and in the case of Barça they have not come down from that round since 2007. Y no sólo eso, the Europa League is the home of Spanish football. In the new millennium, Valencia, Atlético on two occasions and Sevilla on others have raised the cup, Cup in which Espanyol and Athletic have played the final.

Economic crisis, players exit, empty stadiums, but whatever, the league is the best. There is the data. And if not, they tell Betis, last in Spain but with aspirations to something big in Europe. Y si no, al tiempo.
