Benfica has decided to break the market in Portugal. The set of 'Eagles’ It announced that next season will be responsible for exploiting the television rights of their parties through their own channel, avoiding that no other network can broadcast their meetings. This way, The Portuguese side has opened a new way to reinvent itself and not die in the eternal struggle for television revenue. La cadena, also also it will offer the English Premier League since the season 2013-14 until the 2015-16.

The combined Luso has decided to independently control the broadcasting rights of their matches. This maneuver, Benfica has opened wide an alternative to television set models in Europe. There will be no joint or individual negotiations to sell the rights to a television channel that is responsible for exploiting, it will be the club itself which manages through its channel.

Benfica TV will broadcast the Premier League since 2013 a 2016.

This way, Benfica TV broadcast will be responsible for all matches from Benfica next season, in exchange for a fee that you can pay for the entire season or through micropayments per game. The Portuguese club have rejected an offer of 20 million euros to sell their TV rights to Lusa, considering that if the club itself is responsible for managing their meetings, income may be higher.

This maneuver, Benfica opens a way never before explored by a football club. First, Benfica TV will become a pay channel for, next, result in anyone follower of club you want to see the party paying for it, allocating the full benefit only to the entity. Besides, the club has reached several agreements with digital platforms, particularly Lusophone countries, to expand its distribution.

A new model that could mimic Spain

This situation opens a way never before explored by a club and can serve as an example in Spain. The problems arising from the exploitation of audiovisual rights in our country has caused discord among the so-called 'big’ and those that occupy a second step. Teams like Sevilla, Valencia and Atletico Madrid have not accepted the conditions of Real Madrid or Barcelona, and this could be a great solution.

Benfica is clear that the benefits you will get from subscriptions and micropayments to watch the matches will be higher than 20 million that offered the Portuguese television, besides having so exclusive rights to all pictures of club meetings. The Portuguese side invents a way to combat economic crisis, a new path that other clubs might follow soon.
