Last update 29 April, 2024 by Alberto Llopis

Real Zaragoza fans will surely remember the legendary left. The Spanish league is full of great pufos in recent years of the twentieth century. The end of the 90's in European football was marked by the famous “Bosman Law” that bound to “Boom” television, they allowed the Spanish League reached a number of players with a rather pitiful level. Signed at a price of gold, with a questionable prestige and that generated difficult situations in many clubs. This left-back, Brazilian Portuguese passport but, who arrived in Zaragoza with the band of being “the new Roberto Carlos”, was one of them. The truth is that their level was far from reality.

left, one of the worst signings in the history of Real Zaragoza

Januário José Marcelo Araújo, better known as Esquerdinha, He joined Real Zaragoza from the Oporto by 500 million pesetas back in 2001. Born in 1972, it was assumed that quality had, speed, power and travel, qualities for which, supposedly, He had triumphed in Portuguese football. The truth is that upon his arrival in Zaragoza he raised the first suspicions when seeing his state of form., past kilos. And everything must be said, the brand elastic “Kappa” The well-tailored outfit that Zaragoza wore at that time did not help him much.

Little stressed, Practically nothing, and raised many suspicions with his overweight, maybe more due to the circumstances of the team. Zaragoza, he went down that year to Second, thanks to a list of bad signings and horrible efforts like Esquerdinha's. At the end of that season, They left him without a record to play in the Second Division and he ended up going to Portugal and then to Brazil, where he finished his career. The last we heard about left it was that had died on 2 November 2018. Had 46 years. DEP.
