Forward Mario Gómez was reunited with the goal in his first league appearance since going under the knife in August when the Bundesliga leaders, el Bayern de Múnich, they thrashed 5-0 against Hanover and extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points.

The show of force places Bayern with 34 points in 13 matches while the reigning champion, Dortmund's Borussia, who will they face in a week, moved up to second place, nine points behind the leader after a victory by 2-1 opposite the Mainz 05, their third consecutive league win.
The Schalke 04 fell to third position with 24 points after a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, which is fourth by goal difference. Frankfurt ended the match a man down after Karim Matmour saw a second yellow.
