Newcastle returned to the Premier League a season after falling to the Championship. While the club and the fans celebrated the return to the Premier League after winning 4-1 al Preston, news broke. The joy was muted knowing that a police investigation ended with the arrest of club president, Lee Charnley.
The authorities have registered the facilities of Newcastle this morning with the intention of finding evidence of an investigation for alleged tax fraud. Registration has ended with several arrests and the seizure of computers and phones. Mirror says Newcastle chairman was arrested last night.
Newcastle has not been the only team investigated in this operation. West Ham offices have also been recorded this morning by the authorities in an investigation that is being carried out in England and France.
