Despite belonging to CONCACAF, Mexico participates in the Copa América organized by CONMEBOL, even managing to reach several finals of the competition. Since the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, the mexican teams, fleeing from the lack of level that exists on average in CONCACAF, they also participate in the Copa Libertadores. So far with little success.
The first decade of the 21st century was much better than the second. In her, Mexican teams achieved 2 runners-up by Cruz Azul in 2001 and Chivas de Guadalajara in 2010 y 6 semi-finals. After the Chivas runner-up, no Mexican team made it through the quarterfinal phase. Therefore in 17 years of participation of teams from the Aztec country, specifically since 1998, Mexico does not know what it is to win a Libertadores.
However this year hopes are pinned on the Tigres, from the city of Monterrey. The felines that won their first match in the round of 16 against Universitario de Sucre, remain undefeated and with all the hopes of winning the most prestigious tournament in America. The Monterrey squad is by the way the fifth most expensive team in the Copa Libertadores.
It is still too early and even hasty but the truth is that in many media they are already beginning to give the feline team as one of the favorites to win the tournament together with the greats of South America. We will see if it remains in borage water or if finally 2015 It is the year in which a Mexican team finally conquers the Copa Libertadores.
