We could start our weekly summary with the Bayern exhibition, with the Madrid derby, but this week the main protagonist is Manuel Pellegrini, the Manchester City coach who has won his first European title since coming to Villarreal ten years ago. He has done it by winning the Capital One Cup against Sunderland.
- England left us as the main match the final of the League Cup that City won 3-1 to Sunderland with an extraordinary game from Yaya Touré, scorer of two goals. First title of the year for City, which however dropped to fourth place in the Premier after not playing its game and Liverpool won 0-3 al Southampton, which is second, four points behind Chelsea. The blues prevailed 1-3 with a hat-trick from Schürrle against Fulhan on a day where Arsenal fell 1-0 against Stoke. Tottenham beat Cardiff by 1-0 with a Soldier's goal.
- Draw in the Madrid derby. He 2-2 of Atlético and Real Madrid was the highlight of the day 26, which also saw Barcelona beat Almeria by 4-1. The Blaugranas are one point behind the whites. Athletic won 4-0 against Granada and increased its advantage to six points in the fight for fourth place. Valencia, meanwhile, it fell 1-0 before the Lightning.
- In Germany, Bayern Munich added a new victory at the expense of Schalke 04 by 5-1 and leads the classification with 20 points advantage over Borussia Dortmund, who also thrashed Nuremberg 3-0 and took advantage of Leverkusen's setback by 0-1 against Mainz. The curious note was experienced at Borussia Mönchengladbach- Eintracht Braunschweig where the two goalkeepers, among them the brand new signing of Barcelona Ter Stegen, were the scorers of the own goals.
- In France, Paris Saint-Germain increased its lead in the standings by winning 2-0 to Olympique de Marseille in the big game of the day. Monaco, by cons, it fell 2-0 against Saint Étienne, putting the title on a platter for the Parisians with eleven days left to finish the league.
- And we ended up in Italy where Serie A had high-flying matches. Juventus beat AC Milan, taking a giant step to win the Scudetto with goals from Llorente and Tévez. Roma and Inter tied 0 and they put a damper on their aspirations to win the title and play in Europe next season.
