Two teams and two shields, or maybe, one.

If Barcelona shares its name with its namesake in Ecuador, Arsenal and River Plate also they do the same. The Gunners have his clone Arsenal de Sarandi in, created in Argentina in 1957 as a tribute to Londoners. Meanwhile millionaires, They find the replica across the river La Plata, in Montevideo. Transalpine not saved sets. Juventus have your copy in Sao Paulo Juventus and Inter in the Internacional de Porto Alegre.

The general rule is that South American teams are those who copied the Europeans as a tribute to them and partly because they are founded by followers of the first who once traveled to South America. However, as Chivas may be creating franchises. A final cause in the case of Uruguay and Argentina is that at the beginning of the century the legislation were forced to put an English name.

  1. You missed, Racing de Montevideo.
River son 4 currently from Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Ecuador (The name is born in a fifth River that no longer exists that was Uruguayan)
    Hurricane Buceo de Montevideo
    Youth of the Stones
    Montevideo Wanders

  2. In Paraguay there is also a River Plate….and is currently playing in the main category. Founded in 1911, It is much older than its namesake in Uruguay .. Whoever posted this left it aside without even giving it any mention….But you say that the Uruguayan River is much older than the Argentine and I don't know if that's correct, since the millionaires team was founded in 1901 and the other in 1932.

    1. The Uruguayan who is older is one that no longer exists and is the first River of all, then there is the Argentine, then the other Uruguayan, that of Paraguay and finally that of Ecuador

  3. There is also Hurricane Diving in Montevideo. Another case is Montevideo Wanderers of Uruguay, Chile Santiago Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers of England.
In addition there Albion in Uruguay and England.
And recently I discovered that there Corinthians in Brazil and England.

  4. Very good post but I wish you could fix this: the team is not called Independiente Medellin, It is not equal to Independiente de Avellaneda, The team is called Medellin and Deportivo Independiente Medellin or called DIM, more never Independent, That would be like calling the Club Atletico River Plate “Atlético” or say Real Madrid.

  5. I live in the city of Salto, Uruguay and here's a picture also called Barcelona and particularity is that the Barcelona of Spain has collaborated with sending shirts and help this team. It is a very humble box, working people and worth highlighting that, a world power work with a humble picture of a small town of just 120000 population

  6. I miss the Catholic University of Ecuador, colo colo Brazil and there is no national university of chile, the name is: University of Chile

  7. A clarification…..River Plate Montevideo is older than the River Plate in Buenos Aires….and they were obviously Argentines who copied the name
